Inspiring Impact

A sign that says `` clean water and sanitation '' with a glass of water and an arrow pointing down.

Six Senses Krabey Island operates its own desalination water plant, extracting water from the ocean. The water quality undergoes rigorous testing in a third-party laboratory every three months. Daily monitoring of water consumption ensures prompt detection and resolution of any issues. Monthly meetings of the sustainability and energy conservation committee facilitate discussion on challenges, best practices, and innovation.

Contributing to community access to water, the resort provides water filters to Allkids organization and installs a 5,000-liter water tank at Ream Primary School, benefiting 1,926 students for clean drinking water and sanitation. The Water All Project, initiated in 2019, continues to benefit  students.

To reduce plastic waste, the resort bottles its own drinking water, eliminating 13,636 plastic bottles in 2022. Collaboration with AllKids extends to supplying clean water to Ream Primary School, including plans for a solar pump to enhance sanitation for 500 students and staff.

Six Senses Krabey Island demonstrates a strong commitment to community education initiatives, forging partnerships with local schools and NGOs to empower students and enrich educational opportunities.

In support of AllKids, an NGO dedicated to children's education, Six Senses Krabey Island provides school supplies, career training, internships, and job opportunities. Material donations from guests or hosts are allocated to these organizations, extending their reach and impact.

Through the Plastic Free School project in collaboration with Ream Primary School, the resort educates children on waste separation and the environmental impact of plastic, advocating for sustainable practices. These efforts have positively impacted 546 students, enhancing the quality of their education.

In addition to educational support, the resort promotes cultural experiences by funding traditional Apsara dance costumes for students and promoting organic agricultural practices at Ream Primary School. Collaborating with AllKids, they ensure access to clean water by installing water tanks and planning for a solar pump to enhance sanitation for 500 students and staff.

By closely collaborating with local Khmer communities and organisations like M'Lop Tapang, Six Senses Krabey Island contributes to holistic development, health, safety initiatives, and educational empowerment, fostering a brighter future for all involved.

Six Senses Krabey Island implements the Zero Waste to Landfill hierarchy, prioritising actions to minimise waste generation and promote proper waste management. Through waste segregation, guests and staff are encouraged to identify and separate waste into six categories, facilitating recycling and reducing landfill waste.

Since 2019, the resort has ensured that none of its food waste ends up in landfills. Instead, food waste is composted or used as livestock feed at the organic farm, promoting circular economy practices and reducing environmental impact.

Collaboration with Ream Primary School on the Plastic Free School project further promotes waste segregation and sustainability education. Monthly workshops educate students on waste management, plastic's impact, and sustainability topics, while the resort's team collects plastic waste from the school for recycling.

Additionally, the resort's sustainability initiatives extend to conserving native flora and fauna, embracing Cambodian culture, and supporting the local community. Hosts maintain herb gardens, and an organic farm produces farm-to-table dinners and spa ingredients, reducing food waste and carbon emissions from food transportation.

The resort's commitment to biodiversity conservation is evident through programs such as butterfly conservation, with 23 species recorded on the island. Collaborating with local NGOs, the resort conserves eight butterfly species through pupae projects.

To engage guests in sustainability efforts, the resort offers experiences like Reef Protection Training Courses and integrates conservation into children's activities through the Grow with Six Senses program. By embracing sustainability principles, Six Senses Krabey Island contributes to creating a sustainable and resilient community for present and future generations.
