Inspiring Impact

A green background with a heartbeat and the words `` good health and well-being ''.

Chiva-Som's Health and Wellness departments have launched a commendable effort by hosting a health camp near the Thailand-Myanmar border in the Pala-U area.

This initiative covers eight villages, providing crucial healthcare services to the local communities and refugees. Services offered include wellness consultations, physiotherapy sessions, medication distribution, therapeutic exercises, educational activities for children, and the provision of essential supplies.

Having successfully conducted eight sessions, Chiva-Som is dedicated to expanding its impact by collaborating with a local NGO for more frequent visits and increased support to the villagers.

The most recent mission on May 20, 2023, marked the seventh year of this meaningful project. The main goals of these missions are to improve health and well-being, promote nutrition, sanitation, hygiene practices, and support childhood development within the community.

The team from Chiva-Som, along with Global Wellness Day (GWD) representatives, organized a day full of activities including medical consultations, physiotherapy, screenings, medication distribution, and educational programs for the children.

The total project expenses were THB 64,155, demonstrating a firm commitment to positively impacting the lives of those in need.

Chiva Som began its carbon footprint reduction journey in 2020 with a 2% cut in electricity use, increasing to 3% by the end of 2023. The target is a 4% reduction by 2024.

The commitment extends to using more renewable energy sources, aiming to raise the current 3% utilisation to 10% by 2028.

The installation of a solar water heating system with 178 panels, heating 200 cubic meters daily, demonstrates the dedication to sustainable practices.

By July 2023, 53,362kWh had been generated through solar power, with plans to convert the remaining two hotel locations.

In 2013, Chiva Som partnered with the Clinton Foundation's Clinton Climate Initiative's Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program to cut energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Replacing 2,300 50-watt halogen bulbs with 8-watt LED bulbs and upgrading the 19- year-old air-cooled chiller to a modern water-cooled chiller led to a 26% drop in electricity use and a 20% decrease in the carbon footprint at the Resort.

Chiva Som’s 'Forests for Life' Tree Planting Initiative is to plant 10,000 forest tree saplings, transforming grasslands into thriving green forests with native tree species.

In partnership with the border patrol police of Thailand (Pala-U division), they have planted over 1,500 tree saplings since the project began in 2021, planning to add another 1500 tree saplings in 2024.

To ensure project success, they operate their own plant nursery where saplings are nurtured until reaching a height of one meter before being transplanted.

Collaborating with the Paratrooper Police, Naresuan Camp, Unit 712, Pala-U, the teams from housekeeping and laundry came together for the 'Forests for Life' Tree Planting project on June 20, 2023, marking the third year of this crucial initiative.

The primary goal is to rejuvenate and enhance the Pala-U forest watershed reserve, providing numerous benefits to society and the nation.

During the event, 1,000 trees of 30 different native species were planted, with 23 Chiva-Som staff members and 100 personnel from Border Patrol Police & Government Agencies participating.
