Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort is a shining example of how the hospitality industry can lead the charge in tackling climate change.
As the first and only certified Carbon Neutral resort in the Caribbean since 2018, the resort is steadfast in its commitment to sustainability. Now, Bucuti is on an ambitious journey toward achieving Net Zero by 2030—a goal that reflects its dedication to not only reducing its carbon footprint but also inspiring global change.
The resort’s path to carbon neutrality has been marked by innovative and measurable actions. A recent investment of Afl1.5 million introduced state-of-the-art VRF cooling systems, advanced solar panel technology, and insulating paint, all designed to cut emissions significantly.
The resort has the largest private sector solar panel installation on the island and uses energy-efficient technologies such as motion-sensors, eco-sensors, and energy and water saving appliances to minimise and optimise usage.
Water conservation is another cornerstone of Bucuti’s environmental strategy.
The resort saves 3.5 million gallons of water on a yearly basis through monitoring and minimising water consumption by repurposing greywater for garden irrigation. This initiative, combined with practices like offering guests reusable water containers (already for over two decades) and eliminating single-use plastics since the 1990s, highlight Bucuti’s comprehensive approach to sustainability.
Beyond its operational efforts, Bucuti engages its guests and employees in meaningful environmental action. Monthly beach cleanups, educational programs, and vegetarian and vegan menus at Elements Restaurant are just a few ways the resort fosters eco-consciousness.
Bucuti also empowers its associates with low-interest loans for energy-saving appliances and EV vehicles, extending its sustainability ethos into the community.
As part of its mission to become Net Zero, Bucuti is not just mitigating its environmental impact—it’s creating a blueprint for sustainable luxury travel.
By blending cutting-edge technology, responsible practices, and community engagement, the resort exemplifies how tourism can be a force for good in the fight against climate change.

Learn how Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort are guardians of Aruba’s Beaches and Marine Life since 1987
Learn more about Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort addressing SDG14
For over 32 years, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort has been at the forefront of preserving Aruba’s pristine beaches and marine ecosystems.
Nestled along the famous Eagle Beach, a vital nesting site for the endangered Leatherback sea turtles, the resort has committed itself to safeguarding the environment and ensuring its long-term health for generations to come.
Every month since 1987, Bucuti & Tara has organised monthly beach cleanups, engaging guests, associates, and the local community to protect the shoreline from pollution. These efforts not only keep the beach pristine but also prevent harmful debris from entering the ocean, creating a safer habitat for marine life.
During the critical sea turtle nesting season, Bucuti takes extra measures to protect these magnificent creatures. Nests are carefully marked, and appropriate signage is placed to ensure their safety. To further reduce disruption, turtle-safe lighting is installed all throughout the property, and lighting along the beach is minimised at night to prevent disorienting hatchlings, allowing them to safely make their way to the sea. The resort works closely with local organisations like Turtugaruba to monitor and protect turtle populations, raising awareness about conservation among guests and the community.
Bucuti & Tara also ensures that its operations have minimal impact on the marine ecosystem. The resort exclusively serves sustainably sourced seafood, promoting responsible fishing practices that preserve ocean biodiversity. Guests and associates are educated on the importance of marine conservation through informative programs and initiatives, fostering a collective sense of responsibility for Aruba’s unique environment.
By combining hands-on conservation with educational outreach, the resort demonstrates how the tourism industry can actively contribute to preserving the beauty and biodiversity of our planet.
As a guardian of Aruba’s beaches and marine life, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort is a powerful advocate for sustainable tourism. Its decades-long legacy of protecting sea turtles and maintaining pristine beaches is a testament to the resort’s dedication to leaving a lasting positive impact on the world’s natural wonders.

Through its initiatives like founding the Bucuti Tara - GMC Nature Preserve and Stimami Sterilisami Foundation, the resort demonstrates how tourism can create a lasting, positive impact on the environment and community.
The Bucuti-owned GMC Nature Preserve, spanning 32 acres in Noord, is a haven for Aruba’s unique flora and fauna. Open to the public, this tranquil space invites locals and visitors to connect with nature while experiencing the island’s untouched ecosystems. By preserving this land, Bucuti & Tara has created a sanctuary that not only safeguards biodiversity but also raises awareness about the importance of protecting Aruba’s natural heritage.
In addition to land preservation, Bucuti & Tara is the founder and the largest donor of Stimami Sterilisami, a foundation addressing Aruba’s stray animal population through spay and neuter programs. By subsidising over 40,000 surgeries, the resort has played a critical role in reducing the number of abandoned pets, fostering a humane and effective solution to this issue. The initiative also encourages responsible pet ownership, benefiting the community and improving the quality of life for countless animals.
These efforts are complemented by the resort’s active participation in local environmental and animal welfare initiatives.
Bucuti & Tara collaborates with organisations like Ban Lanta y Planta to promote the planting of native species and supports the Donkey Sanctuary Aruba and Animal Rights Aruba in their conservation work. Through these partnerships, the resort amplifies its impact, creating a ripple effect of positive change across the island.
By prioritising nature conservation and animal welfare, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort exemplifies how the hospitality industry can be a force for good.
