Inspiring Impact

Under Six Senses Vana’s Mission Wellness Sustainability program, the resort has launched a Local Education Series in partnership with Mussoorie Gram Vikas Samiti Inter School (MSVS).

Through this initiative, students are being equipped with a range of trainings and support, engaging hosts to cultivate and nurture their interests in various sectors. The goal is to guide and educate students on the diverse career opportunities available, empowering them to make informed choices based on their passions and talents.

As part of the Local Education Series, impactful activities have been conducted such as providing zero waste and climate change training to enlighten 40 students on their environmental impact.

Additionally, apothecary and home remedies classes have been organized for 37 students and 9 teachers, preparing them for challenging seasons and common illnesses.

Through collaborative efforts like a Clean-up Drive, where students collected over 50 kgs of waste, values of community cleanliness and responsibility are being instilled. To promote sustainable living, stainless steel thermos bottles and cloth bags were distributed to 40 students, encouraging eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.

The resort’s commitment to education extends from class 5 to 12th, fostering skills and awareness in areas such as cuisines, sustainability, engineering, and more through the Local Education series.

By utilizing their dedicated Sustainability Fund, which comprises 0.5% of their topline revenue, the company is able to support these initiatives and encourage student participation.

As part of their efforts, internship opportunities are also offered to interested students, aiming to bridge the gap between education and practical experience, nurturing the future leaders of tomorrow.

Since 2014, the resort has taken pride in operating its in-house glass water bottling plant, with the goal of eradicating the use of single-use plastic bottles.

By opting for reusable glass bottles instead of plastic, the resort has successfully prevented over 1,000 plastic bottles annually from contaminating landfills and oceans.

Over the course of the last decade, this endeavour has effectively eliminated a noteworthy 1 million plastic bottles, benefiting both the guests' well-being and the planet's overall health.

The commitment to sustainability goes beyond mere reduction of plastic waste. The company places a strong emphasis on water conservation and quality.

Through utilising a natural river water source and an in-house purification plant, the company ensures that 100% of water is recycled, leaving no drop wasted. The advanced water purification system, incorporating triple RO, triple UV, and triple Filtration systems, upholds water quality to the highest standards for safe consumption.

Furthermore, the incorporation of a roof-water harvesting system with a capacity of 500KL, along with the Water Conservation Project at the water source, showcases the dedication to conserving water resources and supporting local communities through eco-friendly initiatives.

Six Senses Vana proudly announces its complete transition to 100% High Speed Diesel (HSD) free Operations.

By implementing cutting-edge heat pumps, the reliance on diesel has been eliminated, resulting in the prevention of 1000-1100 tons of CO2 emissions annually, the equivalent to planting over 80,000 trees.

As India's first LEED Platinum certified retreat, it stands as a symbol of responsible hospitality, featuring a comprehensive waste management system, supplier engagement program, and a unique Sustainability Tour and Talk initiative aimed at educating guests and employees on sustainability and climate change.

Their commitment to sustainability goes beyond energy efficiency. Through the installation of a glass water bottling plant in 2014, the resort has successfully eliminated the use of 1 million plastic bottles.

Furthermore, the introduction of 180 solar panels contributes to 21% renewable energy annually. The resort's dedication to sustainability is also evident in its procurement practices, with a focus on sourcing materials within a 200 km radius to reduce the carbon footprint and promote local sourcing.

Moreover, the resort's architectural design seamlessly integrates with the surrounding forest, incorporating tree transplantation methods, and ensuring that 70% of its procurement is sourced within the state.
