ABOUT

BOrgo pignano

This former hilltop hamlet, with its 18th-century villa and carefully renovated farmhouses, invites a slower, more meaningful way of living — one shaped by the rhythms of the land and the warmth of genuine hospitality.

Days unfold at an unhurried pace. Mornings begin with the scent of herbs in the garden, followed by walks through olive groves and forest paths, or gentle cycles along quiet trails. The limestone infinity pool, carved into the hillside, looks out across rolling countryside, inviting complete stillness. Elsewhere on the estate, painting sessions, cookery workshops, and guided farm tours offer quiet engagement with the land and its traditions.

Accommodation is effortlessly elegant. Rooms and suites in the main villa feature frescoed ceilings, antique furnishings and soft, natural tones. Stone-built maisonettes and larger private villas offer privacy and space, with open fireplaces, landscaped gardens, and heated pools — each corner thoughtfully restored to honour its Tuscan roots.

Dining celebrates what grows close to home. The Michelin Green Star-awarded Villa Pignano restaurant serves seasonal dishes made almost entirely from ingredients grown on the estate or sourced nearby. Pasta is handmade, olive oil pressed on-site, and honey collected from the estate’s own bee colonies. In summer, wood-fired pizzas and grilled meats are served under the stars in the relaxed, open-air Al Fresco.

The wellness experience is rooted in the land. Set within restored medieval cellars, the spa uses oils, herbs, and honey harvested from the estate. Treatments are tailored by a trained herbalist, and the gentle heat of the sauna and steam rooms soothes both body and mind. Every element is simple, natural, and deeply restorative.

Borgo Pignano leaves a lasting impression — not through extravagance, but through authenticity. There is calm in the quiet, meaning in the details, and a sense of connection that lingers long after departure. It is a place not only to stay, but to feel grounded, nourished, and truly present.

Quality Education

Learn how Sustainability Starts with Learning at Borgo Pignano

  • Learn more about Borgo Pignano addressing SDG4

Education is deeply embedded in daily life at Borgo Pignano. The estate partners with the University of Lucca for on-the-job hospitality training, offers structured development for all team members, and benchmarks salaries regionally each year to ensure fair progression. Students from the Royal Drawing School are hosted on a complimentary basis, enriching the cultural fabric of the estate.

Guests are also invited to learn: guided estate tours showcase organic farming, renewable energy systems, and biodiversity projects such as beekeeping.

Creative workshops — including painting, honey harvesting, and soap-making — turn knowledge into hands-on experience. Here, sustainability is lived, taught, and passed on.

From kitchen apprentices to international visitors, Borgo Pignano cultivates a culture of curiosity, skill-sharing and environmental awareness.

Affordable & clean energy

  • Learn more about Borgo Pignano addressing SDG7

Since 2011, Borgo Pignano has generated 100% of its heating and hot water using woodchip boilers, fuelled by timber from its own sustainably managed 750-acre estate.

Solar panels support electricity needs, and 95% of purchased electricity is green-certified.

Several buildings have already transitioned off gas entirely.

Electric buggies are used across the resort, with multiple charging points installed for staff and guests.

The estate’s infrastructure upgrades are practical, not performative — insulation has been improved to reduce demand, and all future developments are planned around renewable systems.

Borgo Pignano demonstrates that even heritage buildings in protected rural areas can become near self-sufficient in energy — with no compromise on comfort, and a clear commitment to decarbonisation.

Responsible consumption & production

Learn how Borgo Pignano is a Working Model for Local, Circular Living

  • Learn more about Borgo Pignano addressing SDG12

At Borgo Pignano, over 90% of food served is either organically grown on the estate or sourced within Tuscany.

The estate is reintroducing heritage crops, maintaining bee colonies for pollination and honey, and producing handmade soap and spa products using its own lavender and herbs. There is no centralised storage — instead, a 7-day stock policy is in place to minimise waste and ensure fresh, local supply.

Single Use Plastic has been phased out across the entire property.

These efforts form part of a fully integrated approach to responsible consumption — where food, products, and experiences are rooted in place, season, and sustainability. Borgo Pignano is not simply reducing its impact — it’s building a replicable model of rural self-reliance in luxury hospitality.
