ABOUT

Manna

Nestled within the ancient fir forests of Mount Mainalo in the heart of the Peloponnese, Manna Arcadia feels quietly removed from the modern world. Set within a sensitively restored 1920s sanatorium, the hotel has been reimagined as a refined mountain retreat where heritage, nature and contemporary comfort sit in harmony. Surrounded by woodland, rivers and mountain air, it invites guests to slow their pace and reconnect with a landscape long associated with wellbeing and renewal.

The rooms and suites are designed as calm, cocooning spaces that echo the surrounding forest. Natural materials, soft lighting and generous proportions create an immediate sense of ease, while large windows and private balconies frame ever-changing views of fir trees and sky. Plush beds, carefully chosen furnishings and indulgent details such as freestanding bathtubs in select suites encourage long, unhurried moments of rest, with the stillness of the mountains ever-present.

Dining at Manna Arcadia is rooted in a deep respect for place and season. The kitchen celebrates the flavours of the Peloponnese through thoughtfully crafted dishes that draw on local produce, traditional techniques and contemporary creativity. Menus shift with the rhythms of the land, showcasing regional cheeses, herbs, meats and vegetables, while the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere allows meals to unfold at an easy pace, from slow breakfasts to fireside dinners.

Wellness is integral to the experience, woven seamlessly into the fabric of the hotel. The spa and wellness spaces offer a restorative retreat, with a heated indoor pool, hammam, forest sauna and treatments designed to soothe both body and mind. Yoga, meditation and massage take inspiration from ancient practices and the healing qualities of the natural environment, leaving guests feeling grounded and restored.

Beyond the hotel, Arcadia offers a rich array of experiences shaped by the seasons. Explore forest trails on foot or horseback, paddle along clear mountain rivers, forage for wild mushrooms or simply wander through the surrounding landscape. Traditional stone villages such as Dimitsana, Valtesiniko, Lagadia and Magouliana invite gentle exploration, revealing an authentic and largely undiscovered corner of Greece. The region is also home to the mystical ninth-century monasteries of Moni Prodromou and Moni Philosophou, dramatically suspended from the cliffs above the striking Lousios Gorge.

Whether actively exploring or quietly resting by the fire, a stay at Manna Arcadia leaves guests feeling deeply refreshed, connected to nature and gently rebalanced.

gender equality

Learn how women can lead every level of a workplace, creating equal opportunities and real career progression

  • Learn more about Manna addressing SDG5

MANNA’s leadership structure is intentionally designed around inclusion and local talent, with 60% of the workforce female and almost 100% of top management held by women. These figures reflect a staffing strategy that promotes women into leadership through training and internal promotion, rather than hiring externally for senior roles.

Training takes place three times a year, and most management positions are filled from within the existing team, which supports long-term career development for women in a region where such opportunities are limited.

The hotel also provides practical employment support that reduces barriers for women and families, including private health and life insurance for all staff, and additional housing, transport, heating and food support for employees who live more than 40 minutes away. These measures make it possible for women to take on stable work without having to choose between job security and family or local community life.

By ensuring that leadership and senior roles are held by women, MANNA demonstrates a clear, measurable approach to gender equality rather than a marketing message. The result is a workplace where women can progress into decision-making roles, and where the economic benefits of tourism are distributed more evenly across the local population.

decent work & economic growth

Learn how local hiring, training, and staff support can turn tourism into stable careers and thriving communities

  • Learn more about Manna addressing SDG8

MANNA’s employment model is built around stability and local opportunity.

Between 75–80% of the workforce comes from the surrounding villages, and the hotel provides practical support for those living farther away through housing, transport, heating and food allowances, plus private health and life insurance for all employees. This makes work accessible to people who might otherwise have to move to cities for employment, and supports longer-term residency in the region.

Training is provided three times a year and most management roles are filled internally, which creates clear career pathways and reduces turnover.

The hotel also supports the local economy through supply chain choices. Forty percent of food and beverage ingredients are sourced from small nearby farms and wineries, and all guest experiences are delivered by local suppliers. This creates stable demand for local producers and service providers and helps keep income circulating within the region.

Water and waste are managed to reduce resource use and pollution. A water tank supports conservation, guest rooms are metered to control usage, and plastic bottles are eliminated, with filtered water provided in reusable glass jugs. Heating and cooling are supplied through a geothermal heat pump, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering the hotel’s energy impact.

These systems support economic growth by strengthening local infrastructure and keeping costs and resources controlled, while also reducing inequality by making work feasible for residents who live in remote areas. The combination of local hiring, training, and supply chain investment also supports broader community resilience and long-term sustainability, rather than short-term seasonal tourism.

sustainable cities & communities

Learn how restoring historic buildings and revitalising villages can bring communities back to life through tourism

  • Learn more about Manna addressing SDG11

For decades the sanatorium sat unused in the Arcadian mountains, while local villages emptied as young people left for cities. MANNA restored the century-old protected building instead of demolishing it, turning it into a functioning hotel that re-energises the local economy without new construction or land development.

This reuse preserved cultural heritage and reduced the environmental impact that new building would have required, creating long-term infrastructure rather than a temporary tourism project.

The hotel’s operations also support rural regeneration through practical systems. Heating and cooling are supplied via a geothermal heat pump, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and demonstrating clean-energy technology that is viable in remote areas.

Water is managed through a conservation tank and metered guest rooms, while plastic bottles are eliminated entirely and guests receive filtered water in reusable glass jugs. These measures keep resource use controlled and reduce waste in a region where infrastructure is limited.

Employment is intentionally local: 75–80% of staff come from nearby villages, and the hotel offers support for those living further away through housing, transport, heating and food allowances, plus private health and life insurance. Training is provided three times a year and management roles are filled internally, creating stable career paths rather than seasonal work. As a result, young people and families are returning to the area, and the hotel is now recognised as a case study by the Greek National Tourism Board.

In these ways, MANNA supports sustainable communities by preserving heritage, building durable infrastructure, reducing inequality through local opportunity, and operating with lower-impact energy and water systems.
