ABOUT
laconda la raia
Set among the gentle hills of Piedmont’s Gavi region, this rural retreat is shaped by vineyards, woodland and open pasture, where life moves in tune with the land. The estate is rooted in biodynamic farming and a deep respect for nature, creating a sense of calm that feels both grounding and quietly uplifting from the moment guests arrive.
The rooms are housed within a beautifully restored historic building, where original character meets understated contemporary design. Interiors are warm and unfussy, furnished with natural materials, soft tones and thoughtful details that reflect the surrounding landscape. Views stretch across vines and gardens, encouraging slow mornings and restful nights, with comfort that feels considered rather than contrived.
Food plays a central role in the experience, drawing directly from the estate and its immediate surroundings. Menus follow the seasons closely, celebrating vegetables, grains and ingredients grown on site, alongside regional specialities prepared with restraint and care. Dining here feels unhurried and honest, allowing flavours to speak for themselves and moments at the table to linger.
Wellbeing is approached with the same simplicity and connection to nature. A small spa offers space to unwind, with indoor and outdoor pools set against the hills, alongside a sauna and steam room designed for gentle restoration. Time here is less about schedules and more about finding a natural rhythm, whether through movement, stillness or simply being outdoors.
Days can be spent exploring the landscape on foot or by bike, following quiet trails through vineyards and countryside, or learning more about the estate’s wines through tastings that reflect its biodynamic philosophy.
Art installations dotted across the grounds invite moments of pause, while nearby villages and historic towns offer a deeper sense of place for those keen to explore beyond the estate.
A stay here is defined by balance — between comfort and authenticity, nature and design, activity and rest — leaving guests feeling quietly restored and deeply connected to their surroundings.

La Raia hires 70–80% of its workforce locally, the estate ensures that the economic value created by tourism and hospitality directly supports the surrounding community. The hotel also prioritises local suppliers for food, materials and services, strengthening the regional economy and helping small businesses thrive. This approach is not only beneficial for the local area, but it also supports inclusive economic growth, reducing dependency on external supply chains and promoting resilience.
The property’s employment practices reflect a clear commitment to fairness and inclusion. La Raia has a gender equality and non-discrimination policy, ensuring that recruitment, career development and compensation are based on skills, experience and performance rather than gender. This is complemented by transparent hiring processes and ongoing monitoring to ensure equal pay for equal work.
The estate also actively encourages diverse applications and fosters a culture of respect and inclusion, ensuring that all staff feel valued and supported.
In addition to fair pay and inclusive recruitment, La Raia offers benefits that support employee wellbeing and development, including training opportunities, professional growth pathways, and support for work–life balance.
Staff meals are designed with nutritional value in mind, and the workplace promotes open communication and access to support resources. These practices help to reduce inequalities in the local area and improve the quality of life for employees by providing stable, meaningful employment and fair compensation.
La Raia also recognises that access to clean water and energy are fundamental to wellbeing and economic stability. The property has invested in water efficiency measures and filtration systems, ensuring reliable, safe water for staff and guests, while reducing reliance on bottled water.

La Raia’s approach to responsible consumption and production begins in the vineyard and extends all the way to the guest table. The estate is built around biodynamic farming practices and has been Demeter certified since 2007, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to producing high-quality food and wine in harmony with nature.
Many of the ingredients used in the Locanda come directly from the estate’s farm, and when external sourcing is required, priority is given to local and sustainable producers. This ensures fresher ingredients, supports regional agriculture, and reduces the environmental impact associated with long-distance transportation.
The Locanda’s Green Michelin Star recognition reflects the restaurant’s dedication to seasonal, locally sourced cuisine and responsible kitchen practices.
The estate actively reduces food waste through careful menu planning, portion control, and ongoing monitoring of consumption, ensuring that food is used efficiently and responsibly. Waste reduction initiatives extend beyond the kitchen, with comprehensive recycling, composting, and minimisation of single-use plastics across the property. Water filtration systems eliminate the need for bottled water, reducing plastic waste and the environmental impacts associated with manufacturing and transport.
Biodiversity and landscape conservation are central to La Raia’s production system. The estate spans approximately 180 hectares, with around 50 hectares dedicated to biodynamic vineyards, alongside woodlands, meadows and natural habitats.
The estate maintains hedgerows and green spaces that support a rich variety of plant and animal life, strengthening soil health and supporting long-term agricultural resilience.
Guests can explore a three-kilometre biodiversity trail and learn how the estate’s natural landscape is protected and nurtured.
La Raia also integrates education into its sustainability approach, recognising that responsible consumption depends on awareness and understanding. Guests are provided with educational materials about local history, culture, and the estate’s sustainable practices, helping them appreciate how the property operates and how their choices matter. The estate’s foundation supports learning about biodynamic farming, landscape conservation, and cultural heritage, offering visitors a deeper understanding of sustainable food systems and the environment.
In combining regenerative agriculture, responsible production, biodiversity conservation, and education, La Raia demonstrates that sustainability is not an add-on, but a way of operating. The estate shows how a luxury hospitality experience can be delivered in a way that respects the land, supports local food systems, and encourages informed, responsible consumption.

Learn more about Laconda La Raia addressing SDG13
La Raia has taken decisive action to reduce its environmental impact through renewable energy and efficiency measures that are practical, measurable, and integrated into everyday operations.
The estate’s solar panels, installed in 2018, form a 136 kWp photovoltaic system that produces approximately 160,000 kWh of electricity each year. This installation covers around 90% of the winery’s electricity needs and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 85 tonnes annually.
Energy-efficient systems such as LED lighting, smart climate control, and modern appliances help to reduce overall consumption while maintaining comfort and quality for guests.
Water conservation is another key element of La Raia’s climate strategy. The property has installed water-efficient fixtures and actively monitors usage to prevent waste, while maintaining reliable supply through proper system maintenance. A water filtration system installed in 2023 eliminates the need for bottled water, saving hundreds of plastic bottles each year and reducing the emissions associated with production and transport. Waste reduction initiatives further support climate action, including recycling, composting, and minimising single-use plastics.
La Raia’s climate efforts are complemented by a broader focus on sustainable tourism and community wellbeing. By promoting local experiences and sourcing from regional producers, the estate helps to support the local economy and reduce the environmental impact of travel and logistics.
In combining renewable energy, energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and community support, La Raia demonstrates that climate action is not only about reducing emissions, but also about building a more sustainable and resilient future.
