ABOUT

Santiburi

Set along the quieter northern shoreline of Koh Samui, Santiburi Koh Samui feels deliberately removed from the island’s more frenetic pace.

Here, on the palm-fringed sweep of Mae Nam Beach, the mood shifts—softer, slower, and altogether more considered. It is a place where space is the defining luxury, with acres of tropical gardens, lotus ponds and coconut groves stretching gently towards a broad ribbon of golden sand.

Villas and suites open onto private terraces where the morning light shimmers across the water. Interiors are calm and authentically thai, with natural textures, soft linens, and spaces designed for comfort. Each room offers a sense of openness, a place to sit, read, or watch the lagoon without distraction. Sunlight filters through the windows, casting patterns across the floor, and the air carries the faint scent of coconut and local timber, reinforcing a connection to the island outside. The layout, furnishings, and careful attention to detail create a quiet rhythm that encourages pause and reflection.

Meals are thoughtful, seasonal, and local. Freshly caught seafood, herbs, and vegetables from nearby farms arrive daily, prepared simply and served with a sense of care. From poolside lunches to more formal Thai and international cuisine, each dish reflects the flavours of the island and the hands that grow it. Small workshops and experiences add another layer, offering the chance to make traditional sweets or explore coconut-based creations, turning dining into a sensory and cultural experience rather than a routine. The kitchens hum with quiet activity, the sounds and aromas a constant, comforting presence.

Days are shaped by freedom and curiosity. Paths through the gardens and Nature Trail reveal small ecosystems of birds, lizards, and rustling leaves. Bicycles and walking trails encourage gentle exploration, while the lagoon-style pool and spa provide spaces for relaxation. Treatments use locally inspired techniques and ingredients, offering time to unwind and reconnect with the body. Moments can be as active or as quiet as desired: a leisurely stroll, a reading break under a tree, a swim in still waters, or a spa treatment in a private pavilion, each creating a sense of rhythm and calm throughout the day.

Evenings arrive gradually, the sun dipping behind coconut palms and casting long shadows across the sand. Warm light glows along the paths, and the scent of night flowers drifts through the air. The soft murmur of the lagoon blends with distant waves, creating a natural soundtrack for quiet conversation, reflective pauses, or simply enjoying the moment. The space encourages noticing the small details—the texture of a leaf, the scent of fresh herbs, the gentle movement of water—turning ordinary moments into quietly memorable ones.

Luxury at Santiburi Koh Samui is understated, built on presence and detail rather than spectacle. It is found in the quiet corners of the garden, the taste of freshly picked herbs, the reflection of sunlight on the lagoon, and the slow rhythm of the day. The resort invites a pace that feels natural, restorative, and entirely personal, offering time to pause, notice, and savour the experience of being on the island.

Where travel meets purpose

INSPIRING IMPACT

Clean water & sanitation

Every drop counts, supporting both healthy communities and the surrounding ocean environment.

  • Learn more about Santiburi addressing SDG6

Water is life at Santiburi Koh Samui, and the resort has adopted an ambitious approach to ensure it is used responsibly and sustainably.

Treated water is fully reused for gardening, achieving a 100 per cent reuse rate in 2024 with zero discharge into the environment. Low-flow faucets, sensor-controlled urinals in public areas, and water-saving toilets (2.5 litres per flush) ensure that every drop counts, while smart monitoring systems and regular third-party verification guarantee high-quality, hygienic water across the property.

The resort extends its commitment beyond its grounds, supporting local communities with practical interventions. At Wat Phu Khao Thong school, Santiburi replaced water filters in the school’s purification system, ensuring students have access to safe, clean drinking water. Staff also provide education on career planning and learning pathways, while children benefit from healthy meals and the creation of school gardens.

Health and wellbeing are a priority across the resort. Regular employee health check-ups, medical benefits, and workplace hygiene practices ensure staff are safe and healthy, while food safety and hygiene training maintain the highest standards for guests. Water policies also protect marine life, with nets in canals preventing debris from reaching the ocean and a zero-waste-to-ocean policy safeguarding marine ecosystems. Biodiversity initiatives, including tree planting and habitat conservation along the Nature Trail, protect local species and maintain ecological balance, illustrating the deep connection between water, health, and the environment.

Through these initiatives, Santiburi Koh Samui ensures that water use, health, and environmental protection are intertwined, creating a safe, sustainable, and thriving environment for both guests and the local community.

Sustainable cities & communities

A place where local culture, community, and nature come together, creating meaningful experiences for guests.

  • Learn more about Santiburi addressing SDG11

Santiburi Koh Samui is deeply embedded in its community, nurturing both people and place. The resort actively invests in local education, hosting Children’s Day events at Wat Phu Khao Thong school where meals and gifts are provided. It assists the school in creating gardens and beautifying the landscape, and offers career guidance to 40 students, equipping them with the knowledge and direction needed to pursue their aspirations.

Local economic impact is equally impressive. Over 50 per cent of the resort’s procurement spend supports nearby businesses, from fruit and seafood suppliers to service providers such as pool and air-conditioning specialists. By encouraging suppliers to adopt sustainable practices, such as environmentally friendly transport and take-back packaging, the resort strengthens responsible local commerce and reduces overall carbon emissions. Guests can explore the island sustainably with electric golf carts and resort bicycles, while smart energy systems and solar panels contribute to clean energy usage.

Cultural and environmental experiences connect visitors to the island. The Holistic Coconut Journey highlights local businesses and traditional crafts, while the Nature Trail provides a self-guided educational journey through the resort’s biodiversity. The resort’s policies also embrace inclusion and equality, hiring employees from diverse backgrounds and providing opportunities for leadership regardless of gender, nationality, or ability, while maintaining fair wages and a safe workplace.

By combining local economic support, renewable energy, sustainable transport, environmental education, and inclusive social practices, Santiburi Koh Samui creates a model of tourism that enriches the community, protects the environment, and offers guests meaningful, immersive experiences.

responisble consumption & production

Sustainability is at the heart of every meal, garden, and guest experience, blending luxury with care for the planet.

  • Learn more about Santiburi addressing SDG12

At Santiburi Koh Samui, sustainability begins with thoughtful planning and ends with measurable impact. The resort meticulously forecasts food purchases each week to align with guest numbers, ensuring that only the necessary amounts of ingredients are prepared. Any food scraps that cannot be consumed are transformed into Effective Microorganisms (EM) solutions, which are then used across the resort’s gardens to nurture healthy, fertile soil. Biodegradable waste is composted on-site, creating EM fertiliser that closes the loop between dining and gardening.

Single-use plastics are a thing of the past. Guests are encouraged not to bring plastics into the resort, and glass water bottles replace disposable alternatives.

Room amenities such as towels and linens are carefully donated when no longer in use, and curtains are upcycled into beach bags for guests.

The resort has also pioneered local sourcing with its “100-Miles Dining” programme, sourcing ingredients from within a 100-mile radius. This supports local farmers and producers, reduces food miles, and celebrates the flavours of Southern Thailand. Guests enjoy seasonal seafood from Koh Samui’s nearby waters, organic vegetables, herbs, and free-range meats from local farms, experiencing an authentic, seasonal farm-to-table menu.

These efforts are amplified by measures to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Solar panels contribute clean energy, smart sensors control air conditioning and lighting, and tree-planting initiatives absorb carbon. The resort also protects biodiversity within its grounds through the Nature Trail and habitat conservation, allowing guests to witness over 20 species of birds, reptiles, mammals, and amphibians thriving alongside them.

Through sustainable operations, community support, biodiversity protection, and energy efficiency, Santiburi Koh Samui demonstrates that responsible consumption is inseparable from environmental stewardship, economic support, and meaningful guest experiences.
